The Position:
The Assistant Director will be the primary advisor for 80 participants of the TRIO Student Support Services program. S(he) will monitor participant progress and will plan and implement meetings and events for the TRIO Student Support Services program.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Overriding Expectation:

  • Demonstrate a strong customer service and/or student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving and desire to identify and support student success.
  • Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued and supported.
  • Go beyond the easiest or surface answer for a student and get to the root cause of the problem, question or issue to solve it as quickly and professionally as possible.

2. Meet with 80 assigned participants to mentor and assist them in identifying academic, financial, and career needs and to develop academic success plans.

3. Identify, monitor, and document progress of 80 program participants.

4. Administer, interpret, and apply various career, academic skills, and personality inventories for participants.

5. Co-develop and lead the Summer and Winter Academic Skills Institutes.

6. Co-develop and lead annual TRIO Day for Graduates event during the spring semester.

7. Co-develop and lead study and life skills workshop series each fall and spring semester for program participants.

8. Co-coordinate two campus visits to 4-year institutions per year

9. Keep accurate records to ensure proper tracking of grant participant progress.

10. Make presentations to various faculty, staff, and student groups.

11. Compile data for and complete all applicable reports for continuance of SSS grant as directed by Director.

12. Assist grant team in grant writing during renewal periods.

13. Participate in professional training necessary to carry out duties.

14. Attend related local, state, and/or regional conferences and training programs as outlined in the grant.

15. Work as a team member within the Learning Communities to improve services to, and retention of, students.

16. Other duties logically associated with position.

All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Student Personnel, Guidance, Education, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of tutor training resources and programs, and academic, career and personal testing instruments.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to work with, the academic, career, disability, and financial needs of first generation and low income students and students who meet the criteria in Section 427 of the General Education Provisions Act (GEPA).
  • Experience in federal educational projects or student personnel work requiring evaluation and documentation procedures.
  • Knowledge of and experience in relating to the academic, social, economic, and cultural needs of first generation and low income students, and those who meet the criteria as outline under Section 427 of the General Education Provisions Act (GEPA).
  • Good communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Student Personnel, Guidance, Education, or a related field.
  • 2 years of work experience in TRIO Programs.

Starting Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000 (based on experience)
