Job Description

General Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Data Warehouse Architect / Manager with deep expertise in Microsoft Fabric, Synapse Analytics, and modern data architecture. This role will lead the transformation of our data warehouse and reporting environment, aligning it with strategic business goals and the Microsoft Azure ecosystem. You will oversee architecture, governance, performance, and a small team of data engineers, focusing on enabling self-service analytics, operational visibility, and compliance.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Architect, implement, and manage the enterprise data warehouse using Microsoft Fabric and Synapse Analytics.
  • Lead the modernization and migration of existing SQL-based data warehouses to a cloud-native platform.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to translate analytical requirements into scalable data models and semantic layers.
  • Design and maintain a unified data lakehouse architecture that supports both structured and semi-structured data.
  • Implement and govern enterprise-wide data models, standard definitions, and metadata layers.
  • Drive adoption of Microsoft Fabric capabilities including Lakehouse, Data Activator, and Direct Lake connections with Power BI.
  • Ensure performance optimization, scalability, and cost efficiency in all aspects of the data platform.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for data governance, security, lineage, and access management.
  • Mentor and manage a team of data engineers and developers focused on data modeling, reporting, and data platform engineering.
  • Collaborate with IT and compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory standards (SOX, etc.).

Qualifications

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • 8+ years of experience in data architecture, with 3+ years leading data warehouse strategy and teams.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Fabric, Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Lake architecture.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, lakehouse design patterns, and enterprise semantic modeling.
  • Experience with Power BI and integration with Direct Lake or Synapse datasets.
  • Hands-on experience with data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Dataflows.
  • Proficiency in T-SQL for query optimization and model development.
  • Ability to lead data governance and stewardship initiatives across departments.

Preferred / Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Tableau
  • Experience migrating legacy data warehouses to Fabric or Synapse-based platforms.
  • Familiarity with OneLake, Notebooks, and KQL in the context of Microsoft Fabric.
  • Mortgage or financial services industry experience.
