About the role

ENVIRONMENTAL LAB TECHNICIAN

ICF is seeking an entry level Environmental Lab Technician to join our team of environmental professionals to support an EPA contract, the Region 5 Environmental Services Assistance Team (ESAT), in Chicago, Illinois.

This position presents the successful candidate a unique opportunity to gain experience in a broad range of activities taking place in an environmental laboratory.

This position will be full time at the EPA’s Chicago Regional Laboratory (CRL)

As a valuable team member, you will be responsible for logging environmental samples into the laboratory’s Element LIMs, managing samples in-house (preparation, analysis and disposal) following CRL standard Operating Procedures or other procedures, as directed. Duties may include validating CLP and Commercial Laboratory electronic data in the cloud or through electronic file transfer to incorporate validation qualifiers, as well as reviewing the work of others doing similar work (i.e., technical or peer review). The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as a member of a team of chemists and technicians.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in chemistry or related field PLUS 1 year of inorganic analysis experience using CLP, SW-846 and other EPA methods.
  • OR a minimum of 2 years of related chemistry lab experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel and Adobe Acrobat to create and edit documents/files.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environmental lab.
  • Able to lift and carry 50 pounds
  • US citizenship is required per federal contract requirements.
  • Must be able to pass an EPA background check to obtain access to US federal property.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Laboratory experience with EPA methods and laboratory instrumentation such as ICP, ICP/MS, IC, CVAA, etc. for the analysis of inorganic constituents and contaminants is preferred.
  • Experience with Element Laboratory Information Systems is preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory safety, OSHA HAZWOPER certification is a plus.
