Chapman University and Schmid College of Science and Technology seek applications for a Part-time Lab Lecturer for Biochemistry 1: Biomolecules Laboratory (BCHM 335L) for Fall 2025.

Schmid College of Science and Technology is one of 11 schools and colleges in the University. Responsibilities:
- Teach one or two assigned 4-hour lab sections once per week throughout the semester.
- Each week includes presenting a pre-laboratory lecture about the lab material, instructing and guiding students in correct laboratory technique and safety during the execution of a laboratory experiment, holding weekly office hours (one hour per class taught), attending lecturer meetings, and grading all assignments submitted by the students.
- The possible laboratory section times are:
Thu 1:00-4:50pm
Thu 6:00-9:50pm
Fri 1:00-4:50pm
- The lecturer must be available to attend lab lecturer orientations before the start of the semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry or a related field.
- Strong commitment to student learning, quality teaching, and academic excellence.
- Prior knowledge of, or willingness to acquire knowledge of fundamental biochemistry laboratory techniques, including titration, colorimetric assays, chromatography (ion-exchange and size exclusion), protein electrophoresis.
- Prior knowledge of, or willingness to acquire of biochemistry laboratory techniques, including Western blotting and enzyme kinetics, including how to conduct these experiments and the knowledge of the underlying concepts in these techniques
Desired qualifications:
- A completed or in-progress graduate degree (Ph.D or Master’s) in a STEM discipline such as biochemistry, molecular biology, biology, chemistry, or another related field. This can be substituted with experience in conducting academic or industrial research, or other professional laboratory experience.
- University or community college laboratory teaching experience at the Junior or Senior level.

Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate(s). The salary for this position is $6,685.20 for the semester per section taught.
