Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary
The Outpatient Clinical Dietitian II proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission to Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. The Outpatient Clinical Dietitian II serves as the nutrition expert and contributing member of the healthcare team providing patient focused medical nutrition therapy, education, and care management. Provides nutrition care in a variety of settings, including but not limited to the outpatient clinical health centers, public outreach clinics, mental health centers, and community-based (e.g. schools, churches) settings.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Provides patient-centered medical nutrition therapy using the Nutrition Care Process (NCP): Evaluates the nutritional status of the patient, develops care plans following the established standards of care, provides nutrition counseling to patients and their families that is age-specific, cultural, religious, and ethnic sensitive for health and disease promotion/prevention and wellness; monitors in accordance with the patient’s treatment goals.
• Coordinates care between visits with the patient and health care team in order to update the plan of care; refers patients for community or home health services as appropriate and documents these in the patient’s electronic health record (EHR).
• Maintains accuracy in documentation, including NCP format, charge entry and reimbursement standards, along with scheduling and referral management, while meeting established productivity metrics and assigned deadlines.
• Utilizes prescriptive authority within the regulations of the institution and legislative bodies to order diets, supplements, enteral nutrition and approved supplies.
• Educates consumers and professional audiences by incorporating a variety of learning strategies, behavioral and readiness change techniques, learning principles, and culturally and literacy sensitive educational media tailored for the client.
• Participates in multidisciplinary teams, clinic and dietitian team meetings, and case conferences. Contributes to the advancement of nutrition through advocacy and committee participation. Serves as a mentor for dietetic interns/students, new staff during the orientation process.
• Participates in nutritional programming, recruits appropriate participants, implements programs and delivers content.
• Performs outcomes evaluation and research activities and by monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the nutrition care provided and reporting results. Translates research findings into meaningful language and concepts, resulting in the utilization of outcome data.
• Participates in the revision of outpatient nutrition-related policies and procedures, education materials, developing marketing material for nutrition programming and classes, clinical forms, and protocols, implements newest available evidence based practice, and available organizational guidelines.
Job Requirements
• Registered Dietitian who maintains active registration, including continuing education, by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; Certified Dietitian in the state of Indiana.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferable
• Master’s Degree or additional certification strongly preferred. Relevant experience directly related to the role will be considered.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of Occupational Safety & Health administration (OSHA), The Joint Commission standards (JCAHO), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), and Indiana State Department of Health regulations as it relates to nutrition care, patient education and safety
• General knowledge of nutrient analysis, word processing, spreadsheet software and other computer programs as required for patient documentation, patient health information, and departmental related reports and project
