Position Highlights
Position: Nurse Educator – Department Based
Location: Legacy NorthShore (Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park & Skokie Hospitals)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Schedule: Day shift Monday-Friday(8am-4:30pm)
What You Will Need:
License: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree in Nursing preferred
Certification: Board certification in clinical specialty or Nursing Professional Development within one year of board eligibility
Experience
3–5 years of clinical nursing experience
Completion of a preceptor program
Previous experience serving as a preceptor
Experience as a unit champion and/or participation in shared governance councils
Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and computer skills
What You Will Do:
Education & Staff Development
Facilitate orientation, onboarding, and transition-to-practice programs
Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing education and competency programs
Design educational programs using evidence-based teaching strategies and technology
Organize skills days, in-services, and educational sessions
Maintain competency records, attendance, and educational documentation
Clinical Practice
Provide direct patient care while maintaining clinical expertise
Serve as a clinical resource and provide bedside "just-in-time" education
Support staff by maintaining a visible presence in the clinical environment
Mentorship & Professional Development
Precept newly hired registered nurses
Mentor and coach new and existing nursing staff
Evaluate and support preceptors
Promote lifelong learning, specialty certification, and evidence-based practice
Guide nurses participating in Transition-to-Practice programs and evidence-based projects
Leadership & Collaboration
Partner with Clinical Nurse Managers and Clinical Coordinators to assess educational needs
Support quality improvement, patient safety, and patient experience initiatives
Participate in shared governance and unit council development
Collaborate across service lines to standardize educational activities
Foster interdisciplinary communication and teamwork
Additional Responsibilities
Travel between NorthShore hospitals as needed
Assist with Safe Patient Handling training
Perform other duties as assigned
