ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSE (Emergency) Fort Carson, CO
About the Position: This position with Department of Emergency Services, Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, Colorado.

Responsibilities
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Diagnoses disease, illness, disorder or injury, institutes treatment of patients.
- Evaluates the urgent or emergent care aspects of patient care.
- Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional or mental problems.
- Provides a full range of urgent care and emergency services or crises interventions in the absence of the physician.
- Writes prescriptions, orders the administration of medications, dispenses medications, and prescribes controlled substance in accordance with scope of practice for Advanced Practice Nurses.
- Provides supervision and education to rotating nurse practitioner and physician assistant students rotating in the assigned clinical care area
- Records entries into patients electronic medical record.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a current Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner (RN/NP) licensure with no limitations, stipulations or pending adverse actions.
- This position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- Pre-employment physical required and annually thereafter.
- Required to lift up-to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- Is the position inclement weather essential (Incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions)
- Is the position Mission Essential (The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather, or other emergency situations)
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or must be able to pass certification within 6 months of employment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or must be able to pass certification within 6 months of employment
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS).
- This position require Rotating Shifts (a work schedule where people move through a continuous cycle of working day, swing, and night shifts)
- This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays
