As a Patient Access Representative I, you will provide a comprehensive set of business and financial services during the patient access process, beginning the day the patient arrives at the facility for care. This role is based in the Emergency Room, where you will use WOW (Workstation on Wheels) carts to register patients and collect copays. You may also rotate to different locations or hospitals depending on staffing needs. A caregiver in this role works nights from 10:30 p.m. -- 7:00 a.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Utilize WOW (Workstation on Wheels) carts to register patients and collect copays.

  • Perform registration and obtain information about demographics, insurance, medical and financial.   

  • Crosstrain to staff all areas of patient access, such as front desk, admitting office, ED and cash register.   

  • Function as a Super User and act as a resource for training new caregivers.   

  • Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic.   

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Two years of experience in a customer-facing role OR Associate’s Degree and one year of experience OR Bachelor’s Degree  

  • Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand physician orders OR completion of course within one year  

  • Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Customer service or hospitality experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information. 

  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.  

  • Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.  

  • In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.  

  • In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.
