Mantel is a Series A startup backed by leading climate-tech venture capital firms. Mantel is developing the material solution to carbon capture. We have developed the only liquid phase carbon capture material that operates at high temperatures. Our molten borates enable new process designs that can increase thermal efficiency and reduce the cost of carbon capture and storage by more than 50%. Mantel’s solution will help to reduce CO2 emissions across a range of industrial sources including the generation of electricity with net negative emissions.

Mantel is looking for a Project Engineer excited to join a promising carbon capture startup working on the development of molten salts as a novel CO2 sorbent material. The Project Engineer will be responsible for execution of Mantel’s demonstration plant design and build. This position will serve as the project lead, working with Mantel’s senior design engineers and coordinating with multiple EPCs, consultants, equipment vendors, and customer engineering/trades/operations to complete detailed design, build, and installation of a First Of A Kind demonstration unit. Specific technical tasking includes building schedule and maintaining cross-discipline coordination with Mantel product and R&D teams. Additional tasking includes project schedule ownership, facilitation of weekly status meetings, internal and external technical presentation and reporting, technical deliverable review and tracking, and coordination with management on project staffing. Mantel is looking for a well-organized, versatile technical problem solver who can think outside the box and communicate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical)
Experience in industrial plant design and project management
Field experience in industrial plant construction
Thorough understanding of engineering drawings, P&IDs, subsystem specifications, cut sheets, product manuals, and engineering test procedures
Familiarity with industrial safety and process hazard analysis
Familiarity with piping, welding, and electrical specifications
Experience in interpreting and applying industry standards, customer/partner requirements, and government regulation compliance
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with high-temperature, molten salt, or boiler/steam systems

Experience in industrial pilot plant commissioning, testing, and/or operations
* Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in project engineering, project management, and relevant industry experience.
* Location: Cambridge, MA
* Travel: 1-2 weeks at a time to partner and customer sites is required.
