KCU has partnered with Isaacson and Miller to conduct our search for the Dean of the College of Biosciences and Vice Provost for Research. This role is pivotal in shaping the university’s academic and research missions and requires a dynamic leader who can drive innovation, inspire faculty, and foster a thriving academic and research environment.As the chief academic and research officer of the College of Biosciences (COB) and the university’s Vice Provost for Research, this position provides strategic leadership for the academic, personnel, financial, and administrative affairs of the COB while advancing the university’s research mission. This dual role is responsible for developing innovative academic programs, enhancing research initiatives, and fostering a culture of excellence in teaching, research, and service. The role also involves promoting institutional goals to professional and community stakeholders and securing external funding to achieve strategic objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Academic Leadership
- Oversee the development, implementation, and management of current and future graduate degree programs within the COB.
- Ensure the curriculum adheres to the university’s mission and exceeds accreditation standards.
- Promote and model professional excellence in teaching, research, and service, including maintaining a record of successful research accomplishments.
- Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to foster innovation and enhance academic programming.
Research Leadership
- Develop and implement a strategic research vision for the university, aligning with institutional goals.
- Direct faculty research initiatives, mentoring researchers and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Proactively seek external funding opportunities, including grants, partnerships, and other revenue streams, to support research initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with research protocols and standards set by accreditation and regulatory bodies.
Compliance and Accreditation
- Lead efforts to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies and accreditation standards.
- Serve as the university’s lead for accreditation processes related to research programs.
Faculty and Personnel Development
- Oversee faculty recruitment, evaluation, promotion, and long-term development planning.
- Direct programs to enhance faculty effectiveness in teaching, research, and service.
- Manage personnel matters, including hiring, reappointments, dismissals, and professional development.
Strategic and Financial Management
- Develop and execute the COB’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with university objectives.
- Plan and manage the COB’s budget, oversee resource allocation, and articulate financial needs.
- Lead operational improvements to enhance departmental efficiency and standardize policies across campuses.
Community Engagement and Representation
- Represent the university at professional events, fostering community and industry relationships.
- Develop external educational affiliations and promote effective academic and research partnerships.
- Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the college’s and university’s activities.
Student Success
- Oversee student-related matters, ensuring equitable programming and access to resources.
- Work with Student and Legal services to address student issues, including curriculum support, leave requests, and academic concerns.
Additional Responsibilities
- Serve on institutional committees, including the President’s Cabinet and the Board of Trustees.
- Collaborate with university departments (Admissions, Financial Aid, Legal, etc.) to address institutional priorities.
- Complete additional duties as directed by the Provost to support the university’s mission.
Qualifications
- Education: Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in biomedical sciences, biosciences, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in academia and/or biomedical sciences research.
- Experience in leadership roles such as dean, associate dean, or department chair.
- Proven track record of research funding and grant acquisition.
- Skills and Attributes:
- Exceptional leadership and strategic planning skills with high integrity and vision.
- Expertise in research administration, grant writing, and scientific mentoring.
