We are looking for a full-time, proactive Team Lead – Ink Room with strong technical expertise and leadership skills to oversee ink room operations at our Brooklyn manufacturing site. This role is responsible for formulating new products, improving existing formulations, and providing support across multiple areas to meet customer requirements. The Team Lead will also be accountable for matching, blending, producing, and quality‑controlling solvent‑based packaging inks per job requisitions, delivering press‑side technical support, and leading ink room operations during their assigned shift.
What You’ll Do:
- Managing day to day operations that will support and contribute to a healthy and safe work environment following all workplace regulations, policies, and initiatives, including reporting all first aid injuries, accidents, and workplace hazards.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable HS&W regulations and Food Safety policies and procedures, wear appropriate PPE’s, hairnets, beard nets, etc.
- Follow all SOP’s procedures is mandatory.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Review and understand Print Master for ink requirements.
- Monitor and understand X-rite and L*a*b* readings.
- Proficient with Windows based software, including databases.
- Operate and maintain all equipment. (Ex. Ink Dispenser, K-Proofer and Hand Rollers, etc.)
- Support maintenance dept. and perform preventive maintenance of equipment with assigned PM tasks
- Maintain complete and accurate record of all technical information. (Ex. Q.C X-rite under a Delta E of 1.00 and record it on the Daily Color Match form and recording all press side information by minoring press downtime.
- Formulate inks following the formulation and color theory as per customer specifications, with economical use of color bases combinations while keeping records.
- Match, blend, produce and perform quality control of solvent packaging inks as per production schedule.
- Troubleshoot at press side, record and monitor press downtime
- Clearly communicate to other shifts and other involved personnel (managers, supervisors) the status of any job (s) being worked on during, before or after your shift has ended.
- Follow Staging procedures to storage inks at the established staging area based on the daily press schedule (Goal is to stage 8 to 24 hrs prior).
- Identify press returns and manage an effective work off program of materials, to insure low dormancy levels. Utilize Ink dispenser for inventory control, workoff, and batch production.
- Assist and manage warehouse inventory as needed.
- Lead operation in the ink room during your shift, coordinate the work of others ink tech (Lev I and Lev II) to optimize performance, minimize ink room costs and press downtime.
- Participate in Continuous Improvement projects.
- Support cost cutting initiative by using up old inventory in batches. Formulate with existing raw materials when possible. Evaluate cost saving opportunities.
- Completing other related duties as assigned by managers/supervisors.
What You Bring:
Education & Experience:
- Reading and writing skills corresponding to the level of High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years experience operating Ink dispenser, X-Rite Exact Spectro, Lab Mixer, Kit Mixer (air driven), Hand Proofer, Lab and production scales.
- Basic knowledge of different ink types.
- Must pass color blindness test.
- Sufficient mathematical skills.
Technical Skills:
• Working knowledge of employment and labor laws.
• Experience with HRIS systems and payroll input processes.
• Knowledge of leave management, compliance, and site-level policy implementation.
• Familiarity with workplace safety requirements.
• Fluency in Spanish and English (spoken and written).
