About the role

Overview

Anne Arundel Dermatology is hiring a Medical Assistant to support our dermatology clinics in Glen Burnie and Columbia, Maryland. This is a hands-on clinical role assisting providers with patient care, procedures, and clinic flow in a fast-paced dermatology setting.

 

Schedule & Location

  • Monday & Wednesday: 7:00 AM - 4:00/4:30 PM (Columbia, MD)
  • Thursday & Friday: 7:00 AM - 4:00/4:30 PM (Glen Burnie, MD)
  • Travel between locations required

Pay range: $18-22/hr, depending upon experience.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Room patients and document medical history and intake in the EMR
  • Obtain and accurately record vital signs
  • Manage and organize patient flow to support an efficient clinic schedule
  • Prepare procedure trays, instruments, and equipment according to provider preference
  • Assist providers with medical and surgical dermatology procedures
  • Prepare, label, and route pathology and lab specimens based on patient insurance requirements
  • Respond to patient questions in person and over the phone, escalating when appropriate
  • Review and address clinical task lists, nurse line messages, and provider requests
  • Clean, sterilize, calibrate, and maintain clinical equipment; document maintenance as required
  • Monitor and maintain medication inventory, removing expired items and keeping accurate records
  • Maintain infection control standards and ensure exam rooms and supply areas are fully stocked
  • Order, organize, and restock medical and office supplies as needed
  • Accurately document patient encounters and assist with scribing in the EMR
  • Assist with the administration of local anesthetic under provider direction
  • Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental communications are handled promptly
  • Maintain strict HIPAA compliance at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

 

  • Ability to triage patient concerns and prioritize care appropriately
  • Knowledge of and compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and Bloodborne Pathogen standards
  • Experience obtaining and recording vital signs and preparing patients for clinical appointments
  • Experience administering injections in a clinical setting
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, CPT codes, and ICD-10 coding
  • Understanding of medical office workflows and basic financial policies
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and general computer applications
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computer, fax, copier, and scanner
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a patient-focused approach
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume healthcare environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with providers, staff, and patients
  • Willingness and ability to travel to satellite clinic locations as needed
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail
  • Ability to accurately file and organize information alphabetically and numerically

Licensure/Certifications/Education

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, or bachelor’s degree in a pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, CNA, or in a clinical patient care setting preferred
  • Prior experience in dermatology or a specialty medical practice preferred
