SUMMARY OF POSITION

With minimal supervision, can conduct installation, repairs, overhauls, and maintenance using a variety of electrically driven pumps, electrical wiring systems, electric motors, control valves, PRVs, and appurtenant equipment related to water treatment/distribution and wastewater treatment/collections.

Organizational Relationships

1. Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor
2. Directs: This is a non-supervisory position
3. Other: Has frequent contact with other district employees

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Repair, and maintain pumps, electric motors, and other mechanical equipment with a high level of proficiency.
• Perform reverse alignments and laser alignments of rotating equipment.
• Test, troubleshoot, and repair defects in electrical circuits up to 600 volts AC with a high level of proficiency.
• Perform Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) on electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the operation of a variety of diagnostic instruments, hand, electric & air tools.
• Proficient at Operating a 6,000-lb crane truck for maintenance or repair of equipment as necessary.
• Performs other such duties as may be assigned. 

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have at least four years of experience in water utility maintenance and service.
• High School Diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Valid Texas Driver's license. 
• High level of knowledge of electrical theory, operation, and electrical safety procedures.
• High level of knowledge of the construction and operation of water treatment and distribution and wastewater treatment and collections systems.
• High level of knowledge of routine pump, motor, and water utility mechanical maintenance.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical troubleshooting.
• Advanced knowledge of PLC troubleshooting and repair and program settings
• Familiar with standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment related to water utility mechanics.

 Ability to:

• Apply WCID 17 safety standards to prevent accidents.
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions and prepare written reports of activities performed.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
• Deal effectively with the public in stressful situations.
• Ability to effectively train and supervise junior technicians in duties and responsibilities.
• Tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions.
• Read and understand electrical and mechanical equipment O&M manuals, including schematics, drawings, blueprints, and technical data instructions.
• Locate and adjust/repair defects in electrical & mechanical systems and equipment.
• Use and care for tools and equipment.
• Work overtime as required.
• Work on-call as required.
• Work in confined spaces such as manholes, wet wells, and valve boxes.
• Wear and use a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) when necessary.
• Climb vertically 260+ feet.
