Data Center Hardware Technician 1 (Nights)

About the role

As an entry-level Data Center Hardware Technician, you will join our Quincy, Washington Data Center (Night Shift) team. You will provide onsite support for hardware deployment, break-fix, and lifecycle management, while ensuring compliance with service request and incident management processes. Working closely with engineering teams and vendors, you will help maintain a reliable, large-scale compute and storage environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day operations of data center servers, networks, and storage devices.
  • Perform installations, upgrades, diagnostics, and repairs of server hardware (e.g., hard drives, memory, power supplies, motherboards).
  • Rack, cable, and decommission equipment as needed.
  • Assist with equipment moves and new deployments.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and vendors to resolve escalated technical issues.
  • Maintain accurate asset and inventory records.
  • Update SOPs and MOPs; contribute to continuous service improvements.
  • Ensure work areas follow organizational standards, including the 5S methodology (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain).
  • Participate in audits and support special projects as assigned.
  • Comply with administrative directives and perform other duties as directed.

Required Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of hands-on computer/server hardware break-fix experience in a data center environment.
  • 1–3 years’ experience with Linux OS.
  • Ability to read and create server build plans.
  • Familiarity with service management/ticketing systems.
  • Effective communication skills; fluency in English.
  • Strong customer service mindset with attention to detail.
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Slack, Teams, Jira, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently, adapt to repetitive tasks, and multitask effectively.
  • Capable of mentoring peers and adapting to different training styles.
  • Physical requirements: Able to safely lift and move at least 50 lbs, and perform work while standing, bending, or reaching. Must also be able to work safely on ladders and step ladders to access and install equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent in a technology-related field.
