About the Position:
Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM) is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high-quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University’s facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We seek an exceptional individual to join our Environmental Health and Safety team as the Safety Specialist (Administrative Analyst/Specialist - Non-Exempt). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity.
Under general supervision of the Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) or designee, the Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting the Director and Associate Director with implementing and maintaining the various chemical hygiene and waste management, radiation safety, safety inspections, infectious disease prevention, occupational safety, and safety training programs necessary to ensure a safe and healthy environment for faculty, staff, students, and the general public. The specialist will conduct routine inspections of work areas and safety equipment to ensure that all operations and equipment are safe and in compliance with state and local laws and regulations. Deliver safety expertise in response to all identified safety deficiencies and requests for safety assistance. Provide direction to EHS student employees, interns, and volunteers. Participate in the implementation of the department’s safety procedures and related efforts and activities.
Offers excellent customer service and is always courteous to campus customers while maintaining records and data related to work performed using computerized record keeping systems. The specialist should display dedication to the quality of their work, dependability, reliability, and be able to interact with a diverse group of individuals. Works well in a team environment and understands the balance of sharing duties, taking ownership, and will take the initiative to complete tasks as needed.
