Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital is seeking a dedicated Certified Surgical Technologist (PRN) to join our Labor and Delivery team and support exceptional care for mothers and newborns.The Certified Surgical Technologist is an unlicensed member of the surgical team who scrubs and/or assists during surgical procedures. This position functions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Certified Surgical Technologist provides direct and indirect patient care, for patients of all ages from pediatric to geriatric by assisting in the preparation of the patient and environment for the performance of surgical procedures. It is the Certified Surgical Technologist's responsibility to know the Surgeon's routine and preferences.

The unit includes labor and delivery, postpartum care, a newborn nursery, and a Level II NICU, with services such as epidurals, lactation support, childbirth education, and celebratory amenities. Key Responsibilities:
• Prepares rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment.
• Assists the surgical team during operative procedures.
• Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
• Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning. Monitors and restocks supplies.
• Drapes patients for surgical procedures. Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies. Documents maintenance and repairs.
• Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs.
• Consistently provides accurate and complete hand-off communication to any healthcare provider according to hospital policy.
Qualifications
- Required: Graduate of an approved specific discipline OR successful completion of a surgical technologist training program during the applicant's service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States.
- Required: Less than 1 year of relevant work experience.
- Required: Certification from one of the listed issuers: NBSTSA CST – National Board of Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assistants Certified Surgical Technologist or NCCT – TS-C – National Center for Competency Testing, Tech In Surgery.
Exception: If graduate of surgical technologist armed forces training program, no certification is required.
