The Virtual Avionics Engineering (VAE) team within Simulation Solutions & Services is seeking a Principal Project Engineer to join our team. VAE develops and builds training software and devices for primarily commercial customers and some military customers. Supported devices range in complexity from desktop trainers to high-fidelity full-flight training simulators. This position is an onsite role located in Cedar Rapids, IA.
This is an opportunity to work on high in demand avionics training applications and devices derived from rehosting Collins operational flight software. Our team is growing, and we are looking to add a Project Engineer with a drive to support internal and external customer interfacing, planning, and leading a team through all phases of our programs. Eligible for relocation.

What You will do:
Lead a team of engineers through all program phases for our Virtual Avionics products.
Lead a team technically in collaboration with team members to ensure products meet requirements.
Diligently follow standards and set an example for the group on following the processes that enable us to be efficient and meet the company’s standards and processes.
Hold cost account management, planning, and details of execution responsibilities.
Collaborate with our Value Stream Leadership counterparts to strive for the common goals of meeting our customers’ needs in a way that meets company expectations and goals.
Bring forward ideas and share their experience with the group with the intent to improve our awareness and stay on a path of continuous reflection and improvement.
Build a productive team atmosphere that enables the group to perform and remain informed.
Effectively network and interact with personnel in areas of expertise on matters requiring coordination between organizations and companies as requested.
Regularly collaborate with other engineers and project management to plan and prioritize activities across the Virtual Avionics teams.
Leverage re-use and best work practices across the organization.
May be requested to coordinate activities of other personnel in a team lead capacity.
Travel - May be requested to travel and support customer needs and applicable meetings.
Education & Experience:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Skills you must have:
Experience in systems or software engineering and/or project execution roles
Experience making decisions that significantly impact cost, schedule, and technical performance.
Experience interfacing directly with internal and external customers, including presentations and issue resolution.
Experience leading others
Skills we value:
Agile or Scrum team experience or exposure to Agile practices
Knowledge of or experience with Avionics Simulations
Flight and Instructor experience as a Pilot on Single and/or Multi-Engine Aircraft
Demonstrates communication, documentation, and collaboration/teamwork skills.
