Sportico: Reporter

Sportico is hiring a content team to expand the reach of our award-winning publication and provide best-in-class news, analysis and insights into the sports business industry. 

This position will be part of a small team dedicated to covering breaking and trending news at the intersection of business, sports and culture. Candidates must be able to execute writing assignments accurately and on deadline while working in a live newsroom across multiple beats. These roles are key to growing Sportico’s reach, and the ability to edit short-form video and boost social engagement in addition to writing will be preferred. 

The news writer will report to an editor and is expected to pitch story ideas in addition to summarizing news of the day. We are a business publication with the utmost commitment to accuracy and attribution. Sportico embraces a startup mentality and with it the ability to fulfill multiple duties and create new projects. Responsibilities:

• Write and publish four to six stories daily.
• Produce accurate copy under tight deadlines.
• Monitor news flow and use news judgment to identify trending topics
• Engage with social media and work with reporters and editors across a variety of beats
• Take initiative, manage multiple priorities, complete assignments on time, and follow up with a strong attention to detail.

Requirements:

• One to three years of news reporting experience, preferably in the business, finance or sports business industries.
• Strong writing skills and news judgment to produce clean, relevant, accurate stories with speed. 
• Proficiency with video editing, photo editing, and SEO best practices is preferred

Salary: $62,500

Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits. PMC is committed to the health and wellness of our employees. As part of our company-wide rollout of PMC’s paid healthcare plan, effective for this role July 1, 2023, the company will pay 100% of the monthly health, dental and vision plan premiums for the employee and their family. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
