The Cardiac Telemetry and Medical/Surgical Unit cares for patients who require extensive ADL assistance, are high-risk or have various medical conditions. As a PCNA on this team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment for patients. This position offers the ability to pursue educational advancement, higher positions and skills development courses offered by Cleveland Clinic. In this role, you have an excellent opportunity to start your nursing career and work in a supportive and caring healthcare setting.    

A caregiver in this position works part-time from 3:00 p.m. -- 11:30 p.m. with every other weekend and 3 holidays per year 

A caregiver who excels in this role will: 

  • Prepare units, patient rooms and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients, transfer or emergencies. 
  • Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.  
  • Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, weight and height. 
  • Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck’s traction.  
  • Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizing special equipment and ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner. 
  • Assist and accompany patients during admission, transfer and discharge. 
  • Perform hourly safety rounds, anticipate patient needs and respond to patient call lights promptly. 
  • Document patient care in the electronic medical record.  
  • Complete ongoing competency requirements, education programs and mandatory training to maintain certification and/or licensure.  
  • Prepare patients for meals, assists in feeding patients if necessary and distribute water and other nourishments according to patient needs in compliance with physician orders. 
  • Collect, properly label and transport specimens to proper area in timely manner. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • A high school diploma or GED  
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within new hire period
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered 
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills

  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) 
  • One year of recent acute care experience
