General Notes

The Bridging Disciplines Programs (BDPs) in Undergraduate College allow undergraduates to earn a certificate in one of seventeen different interdisciplinary concentrations through a combination of coursework, research, and internship experiences. For more information about the BDPs, please see the programs’ web site (https://undergradcollege.utexas.edu/bdp). Must be eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.

Position Purpose

To provide individual academic advising to students in and applying to the Bridging Disciplines Programs (BDP) and to provide program-related support as part of the BDP team.

Responsibilities

  • Advise undergraduates on completing an interdisciplinary plan of study and help students integrate BDP requirements with degree plans. Advise students on research and internship experiences.
  • Advise prospective students individually and in groups, coordinate feedback on application essays, and help students define educational and career goals. Contribute to faculty panel meetings and convey faculty feedback to the students.
  • Serve as the BDP Connecting Experiences coordinator, acting as a liaison with internship sites, cultivating relationships with internship and research assistantship sites, and maintaining a blog with internship and research assistantship opportunities.
  • Serve as an active member of the BDP team, contributing to program planning, outreach and communication, events, faculty panel meetings, and programming and advising initiatives.
  • Coordinate student workshops, panels, and other events designed to help students find, successfully obtain, and present on their connecting research and internship experiences.
  • Perform assigned BDP program-related duties, which may include coordinating student events; assisting with outreach; and contributing to other projects and events as assigned.
  • Coordinate career-oriented events for BDP students, working in conjunction with career services offices at UT.
  • Serve as an active member of the Undergraduate College team, contributing to program planning, serving on committees, and attending UC events and meetings as needed.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of experience working with college students in an academic counseling capacity or Master's degree in a related field and two years of experience in counseling, group work, assessment and administration of student academic programs. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED OF ALL APPLICANTS: Excellent attention to detail. Excellent writing and communication skills, and ability to speak effectively to faculty, staff, and student audiences. Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills. Experience managing multiple, complex projects at once and meeting tight deadlines.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than four years experience working with college students or in an academic counseling capacity. Experience working with educational or co-curricular programs at a college or university. Experience working with interdisciplinary academic programs. Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary education and a proactive approach to helping students work toward educational and career goals. Experience advising students on research and internship experiences. Experience developing and leading professional or career development workshops or services. Experience organizing and coordinating special events. Knowledge of UT policies, procedures, course offerings, and degree plans, and experience advising students about their degree plans.

Salary Range

$46,000+ depending on qualifications
