The Position: The Onboarding Leader is responsible for the technical orientation and onboarding for all new Great Dane Plant employees. This role trains new employees on the safety and proper use of tools for their new positions. The Onboarding Leader assists in other onboarding activities such as safety, tours, quality and efficiency and evaluates skills and recommends placement of new employees. Depending on the facility, the Onboarding Leader may also serve in the role of Technical Trainer.
Responsibilities
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Level I:
- Administers the Onboarding Program at the plant.
- Responsible for the Training Lab.
- Plans, organizes, facilitates, and delivers Supervisors and Team Leader training programs.
- Provides classroom training on a variety of subjects using instructional material, and current technology for specific curricula.
- Accomplishes hands-on training in alignment with facility and company standards, utilizing the Training lab.
- Provides tours for new employees, identifying stations and job responsibilities.
- Ensures new employees know and understand all safety procedures associated with the tools and job tasks they are asked to perform.
- Interacts with plant personnel in setting requirements of orientation curriculum based on corporate requirements.
- Reviews and tests new employee’s skills sets, providing feedback and plans for improvement.
- Participates in the evaluation of each new hire in terms of placement (cognitive, aptitude, physical and technical skills).
- Evaluates and confirms learning objectives through ongoing assessments and acts upon data accordingly, in alignment with company standards.
- Ensures appropriate quality standards are applied throughout processes.
- Evaluates employees for placement purposes
- Serves on Corporate Training Committees in the development of new corporate training processes and programs.
- Ensures station specific trainers are training new employees on station specific safety, quality and efficiency needs in accordance with Standard Work Sheets and Standard Work Element Sheets.
- Monitors the OJT process and trainer performance, provides OJT training for trainers, and provides feedback and suggestions for improvement to Managers, Supervisors, Team Leads and Trainers.
- Audits station training records to compare results.
- Monitors employee’s skills and records employee skill data in training matrices.
- Provides reports on station training health.
- Other duties as assigned.
Level II:
- Interfaces with department head, hiring agency and/or HR about changing needs, trends or other issues associated with new employees.
- Develops supporting aides for print, classroom and on-the-job training materials.
- Provides assistance in obtaining plant objectives as appropriate. (Retention activities, technical standards/training, employee training etc.)
- Develops associated training for plant personnel based on plant needs.
- At plants that do not onboard weekly – serve as the Technical Trainer during off weeks.
- Other duties as assigned.
Level III:
- Provides rapid training solutions for immediate needs in the plants.
- Provides onboarding services to new Onboarding Leaders.
- Provides training to other Onboarding Leaders and Technical Trainers.
- Develops new process and procedures for other plant programs as necessary.
- Mentors, coaches and directs other Onboarding Leaders.
- Leads Corporation Training Committees when appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
YOUR SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)
- Education: College degree preferred
- Experience: 5-7 years plant experience (in a leadership role within the plant)
- Skills: Knowledge of Standard Work Sheets and Standard Work Element Sheets.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Data collection and entry.
- Communication skills.
- Overall Plant knowledge.
- Knowledge of Safety and Quality standards.
- Ability to deliver training in a classroom or one-on-one.
- Travel: Willing to travel if necessary.
