About the role

We are currently seeking a committed and passionate Summer Dean to lead and support mental and behavioral student services as part of our BACR Camp SNBC summer program at Hoover MS. The Summer Dean must be able to work with up to 20 youths during summer program hours, Monday to Friday from 9:00am-4:30pm. Our ideal Summer Dean is someone who is passionate about working with youth, has a strong commitment to BACR's mission, values and best practices, and has a dedication to youth development.

About the Program

Dates: June 7th 2023 to July 19th 2023

Work Days/Hours: Monday to Friday from 9:00am-4:30pm (35 hours / week)

Compensation: $32/hr

Qualifications:

  • Must have an Associate Degree or higher, or 48 or more college units, or pass the Instructional Aide exam
  • Must pass a criminal background check and TB test clearance
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Must have experience working with middle school youth
  • Must have a general knowledge base of core elementary and middle school subjects
  • Must possess strong classroom and behavioral management skills
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to communicate openly in a professional manner with students, parents, community partners, and after-school and school day-staff
  • Must maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high degree of integrity
  • Ability to travel to required meetings and must have a clean driving record and insurance if using a personal vehicle

Preferred

  • Previous experience working or supporting student mental and behavioral health

Job Duties:

  • Provide targeted SEL and behavioral support for participants in Camp SNBC through conflict mediation and one-on-one support for identified/high needs students.
  • Lead classroom community-building activities in coordination with Summer Instructors.
  • Coordinate continued care of students with school counselors from participant’s enrolled school.
  • Promote a safe and positive classroom environment in coordination with Site Leaders in observation of QAP goals.
  • Support Summer Instructors with strategies and tools for behavior management.
  • Model positive and proactive attitudes, behaviors, and language.
  • Communicate regularly with the Site Coordinator and Beacon Director to ensure consistency.
  • Ensure that all school space and equipment is left clean and orderly.
  • Meet deadlines with consistency.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with Hoover summer instructors, other school counselors, Site Coordinator and Beacon Director.
  • Collaborate with Site Coordinator and Beacon Director in programmatic support of target/focus students.
