Job Description

The Renewable Resources and Enabling Sciences Center is a talented team of scientists and technicians working in biological, chemical, and catalytic research approaches to renewable energy and materials for a circular economy. The center focuses on polymer design and upcycling, separations, synthetic biology and bioconversion, analytical sciences, computational modeling, and lignocellulosic chemistry and catalysis.

We have a postdoctoral position open for the development of new membrane-based separations processes.

The successful candidate will be able to:
•    Design, operate, and scale batch and continuous separations processes related to bioenergy and plastics recycling
•    Perform synthesis, characterization, and use of new membranes
•    Work safely and independently in a laboratory setting
•    Advise other researchers in the planning and execution of experimental work
•    Communicate scientific results effectively, both written and oral, and
•    Author and publish peer-reviewed publications.

Basic Qualifications

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.

* Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.

Additional Required Qualifications

•    Experimental and research experience designing, operating, and scaling separations processes
•    The ability to work effectively in a large, multidisciplinary team of engineers, chemists, and biologists.
•    Strong track record of authorship of peer-reviewed publications.
•    Very good writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
 

Preferred Qualifications

•    Membrane synthesis, characterization, and operation

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: Postdoctoral Researcher / Annual Salary Range: $73,200 - $120,800

NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
