As an Imaging Engineer you will be a key player in making the performance of our scanners meet our customer’s demands. Within the D&E EUV System Performance department, we have formed a customer imaging team. In this team we explore technology options to enhance the performance of our scanners taking the whole ecosystem into account. The outcome of the work will be input for new product design choices as well as direct customer process updates.  

Role and responsibilities

Our customers make computer chips. To successfully do so our scanners need to match the image our customers intend to reproduce on their wafers as closely as possible. The closer the image created by the scanner resembles the intended image, the better the scanner imaging performance.

As such our customers demand machines and tooling capable to image future node functionality, including among others pattern shrink and increasing pattern complexity at increasing productivity and HVM capabilities. It is our task to understand the future requirements of our customer, and explore technology solutions enabling these lithographic requirements. The typical work entails studies covering all aspects of lithography, and encompass next to our scanners, reticle and resist technologies, SMO, OPC among others.

We will help you to develop expertise in how design choices in scanner Hardware and Software and choices in the application (such as scanner settings ,mask and resist processes), influence imaging performance. You will need to understand how imaging performance in general is important to our customers, why different device architecture demands different scanner requirements and how the ASML application portfolio and capabilities landscape looks like. In computational lithography we do this mainly via extensive simulations. Pending study goals we also do matching of these simulation results with experimental data.

In this field, you as imaging engineer will be challenged to:

  • Perform path finding imaging analysis to support customer roadmaps.
  • Predict imaging performance for future products by means of sophisticated simulation tools
  • Do printability assessments on specific design driving customer layers and optimize the performance.
  • Support customer node transition with dedicated imaging prediction and verification by experiments.
  • Communicate with a wide range of stakeholders such as (system) engineers of various scanner components, marketing, suppliers (e.g. Zeiss), external partners (e.g. IMEC) and possibly customers
  • Share results in clear documents and presentations.
  • Share skills and competences to peers.

Education and experience

Solid technical background (MSc/PhD in physics, optics, nano technology or related).

  • Experience (> 2 years) in the semiconductor industry, preferably in lithography. (is a pre)
  • Solid knowledge of statistics, and experience with exploratory data analysis and Design Of Experiments
  • Knowledge of and experience with lithography, lithographic imaging and simulations (HyperLith, ProLith etc), and ASML scanners is a pre
  • Strong programming skills (Python and/or MatLab, etc)
  • Ability to generate and analyze large data volumes
