We are looking to hire an experienced Sr. CAD Designer to help us keep growing and developing new technology.  This position will utilize skill sets involving mechanical, electrical, and civil disciplines in the preparation of CAD drawings.

About the Role:

  • Participate in early process development phases to understand space requirements, utility services, environmental and safety features needed to implement ideas conceived by research scientists and engineers.

  • Help prepare project scope documents in draft form supported by layouts and electronic drawings/sketches to illustrate to team members the major characteristics of the process and the impact on the facility.

  • Sketch and draw up designs and arrangements using input from engineers and technicians on the team.

  • Perform rudimentary calculations involving weight take-offs, quantities of materials as well as developing equipment lists and bills of materials.

  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations illustrating key features of proposed projects by importing sketches and designs from layouts.

  • Create CAD drawings in line with company guidelines, general regulations, and industry standards.

  • Transmit drawings to construction teams and outside contractors when appropriate.

  • Revise facility drawings as needed to reflect as built conditions of new and previous projects to bring facility documentation up to date.

  • Provide support during the building and installation process, ensuring that the project is built properly and according to design specifications.

  • Review documents and drawings created by outside engineering or partner team members for conformance to project objectives.

  • Complete detailed design packages for Breakthrough Technology equipment including cell designs, ancillary equipment, process layout, process flow and interaction assessments, and construction sequence details.

  • Utilize understanding and experience of material selection, material properties and interactions, tolerance stack up, and thermal expansion implications to design technical solutions with support from engineers and scientists.

  • Contribute to procurement and quality assurance methods of materials and equipment components for breakthrough technology designs.

  • Coach and develop entry level designers on principles, best practices, material selection, and key design principles for molten metal applications.

  • Ensure all drawings are organized using appropriate version control, nomenclature, and sorting methodology in database solution for efficient searching and retrieval of site and breakthrough technology team members.

What you can bring to this role:

  • 7 to 10 years’ experience in engineering role or related experience preparing CAD designs and drawings.

  • 5 years of experience designing equipment and containments vessels for molten metal and molten bath operations.

  • A bachelor’s or associate degree in engineering or equivalent relevant technical experience in industrial design.

  • Exceptional written, verbal communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • CAD experience and training in SolidWorks and AutoCAD

  • Strong computer and mathematical skills.

  • Flexible approach to work and the ability to adapt to change.

  • Self-motivated attitude and the ability to use initiative to get the information that is needed to complete assignments.

  • Safety of personnel must be the foremost consideration of any design effort.
