The Department of Infectious Diseases in the Center for Global and Community Health Equity is seeking a Sr. Research Assistant who will assist with the analytic datasets for multiple NIH-funded studies and other programs. The Sr, Research Assistant will work closely with Principal Investigators and other research team members to analyze data from multiple sources, especially EHR data to develop and implement study designs while maintaining data quality assurance procedures to ensure validity and reliability of study results. This role will conduct complex analysis, write manuscripts, support the implementation of research studies and critically, will help train other research staff, prepare, analyze, and interpret data, as well as report on analysis results.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Facilitate communications between sites and between operational hubs in the US, New Jersey and Chile.
- Prepare for NIH meetings, including data tables, summarizing protocol accruals and retention, and presenting publications associated with the consortium.
- Write manuscripts.
- Assist the PI and co-PIs with complex database building and management.
- Manage datasets/variables and perform data cleaning, including identifying potential problems with study data and collaborating with the research team to resolve issues encountered.
- Merge, create, and recode variables to prepare data for analyses.
- Develop data cleaning programs for forms.
- Develop and implement data quality assurance procedures to ensure validity and reliability of study results.
- Create datasets for analysis by other investigators.
- Write detailed documentation/specifications for analysis data sets and related files.
- Perform analyses on datasets and document analyses using R, STATA, SAS, Mplus or other statistical software packages, analyses include logistic and linear regression, latent class analysis and mediational analysis.
- Create tables and figures in publication-quality form summarizing the results of statistical analyses and present results orally to study investigators.
- Contribute to writing and reviewing drafts of reports, posters, and manuscripts, including writing up interpretation of analysis results and description of statistical methods used.
General Research Support
- Provide protocol development, study implementation, and research dissemination support to the translation of research for community audiences; maintain good working knowledge of all assigned projects.
- Review, edit, and finalize study-related documents (protocols, case report forms, study SOPs) in collaboration with PIs and study teams.
- Conduct literature reviews, draft data tables, and conduct scientific writing/editing to support research dissemination. Format abstracts/manuscripts and submit to conferences/journals.
- Provide assistance in developing effective visualizations, posters, and presentations for scientific conferences and donor reporting.
- Train research team, assist research team in performing/coordinating quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
- Prioritize building effective working relationships with US and international team members and collaborators in service of common goals.
Student Exchanges
- Respond to student email inquiries and assess applicants CVs.
- Schedule and conduct initial interviews and request follow up meetings.
- Determine and track available studies or manuscripts appropriate for student contributions.
- Monitor current placements quarterly and regularly update the student placement tracker with applicable changes.
- Knowledge Management
- Maintain and update CIDI Indo-US SOPs related to authorship, manuscripts and abstracts.
- Develop reports; track publications in progress in collaboration with study coordinators; present reports to leadership and research team.
- Track scientific conferences/events and facilitate participation of research team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
- Two years of related experience
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, reference managers, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Knowledge of clinical research practices and principles.
- Additional graduate level education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- MPH or MS in relevant field preferred.
- Qualitative research skills.
- Strong programing skills in R, Stata, or SAS.
