About the role

Job Description

Remote: This position does not require employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee’s role enables them to work off-site on a permanent basis. This position requires an employee to cover territory visits to dealerships in a reoccurring frequency.

The position is remote, but the selected candidate must reside within 100 miles of the Western Regional Office in Westlake Village, California. This job is not eligible for relocation benefits.

The Role
The Litigation Support Manager supports the breach-of-warranty (Lemon Law) legal process in California. The role’s core responsibilities include performing vehicle legal inspections, providing technical expert testimony, providing Person Most Knowledgeable/Person Most Qualified (PMK/PMQ) testimony supporting the discovery and filing process, and supporting internal and local counsel.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Regularly serves as General Motors’ technical expert and Person Most Knowledgeable/Qualified (PMK/PMQ) in pending breach-of-warranty matters in California.

  • Owns the technical inspection and expert-testimony process for California breach-of-warranty matters, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with GM policies and procedures.

  • Works with local counsel and GM Legal to evaluate cases, prepare testimony, and align strategy.

  • Evaluates cases on technical merit as requested by local counsel and other internal stakeholders.

  • Performs vehicle inspections to evaluate customer concerns, vehicles, and repair processes, including review of repair histories and supporting documentation.

  • Supports the discovery and filing process, including signing declarations and reviewing technical service bulletins (TSBs), field actions, and internal engineering documents for discovery.

  • Prepares for and participates in depositions, arbitrations, and trials, including acting as GM’s corporate representative where designated by counsel.

  • Maintains strict compliance with litigation hold, information lifecycle management, and data privacy requirements when handling engineering, warranty, and safety data.

  • Partners with GM Legal and outside counsel to continuously improve case-evaluation criteria, documentation standards, and testimony preparation practices.

  • Supports development and maintenance of playbooks, job aids, and training materials for Lemon Law litigation support.

  • Provides training and support to the Service Zone and Field Engineering teams on technical issues, documentation quality, and litigation-related expectations.

  • Participates in local Lemon Law seminars and other industry/legal training as needed to stay current on California Lemon Law developments.

  • Supports favorable case outcomes (successful defense and timely outcomes) through timely case evaluation, accurate inspections, and credible testimony.

  • Meets service-level expectations for case review, documentation, and inspection turnaround as defined with Legal and business partners.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Minimum 5+ years dealership or OEM automotive technician experience (GM experience strongly preferred).

  • Up to 75% travel within California for vehicle inspections, court appearances, and meetings with internal and external counsel.

  • Deep understanding of OEM service policies, warranty administration processes, and CA Lemon Law legislation.

  • Experience reviewing and interpreting repair order histories, technical service bulletins (TSBs), field actions, and internal engineering documentation.

  • Comfort testifying in adversarial settings (e.g., depositions, arbitrations, trials) and serving as a PMK/PMQ or corporate representative, as designated.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Analytical ability to address and resolve complex technical and documentation challenges in a legal context.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with individuals within and outside the organization, including attorneys and external experts.

  • Strong planning, organizational, and computer skills, including proficiency with common office and documentation tools.

  • ASE Master Certification.

  • OEM Automotive Certification.
