We invite candidates to serve as field consultants providing limited oral health assessments, fluoride varnish applications, oral health education, and follow-up care referrals in Maine’s public schools in support of the Maine CDC School Oral Health Program (SOHP).
The field consultant will complete the following tasks at a designated number of Maine public schools participating in the SOHP:
- Coordinate dates and times of dental clinic days with school nurses or school administrators.
- Conduct oral health screenings, apply fluoride varnish, provide oral health education, and follow-up care referrals at designated schools.
- Track school oral health services and report data.
- Provide, as needed, oral health education to public school students, staff, and parents or guardians including but not limited to distribution of provided pamphlets and posters; promotion of oral health e-learning modules, and educational classroom learning sessions.
- Participate in meetings and/or calls throughout the year as determined by the Program Manager of the SOHP.
Requirements
Job requirements:
This position requires Department of Education fingerprinting and background checks for the purpose of working in a public-school setting, proof of professional liability insurance and registration as an independent contractor with the Maine Board of Workers Compensation. Support is available to assist candidates in acquiring these credentials. The person must be able to travel locally or regionally within the State of Maine. Being a field consultant with the SOHP requires self-direction, keen attention to detail, and follow-through to meet required deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Either Maine Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) with independent practice authority (IPDH) (support is available to assist candidates in acquiring this authority), or Registered Nurse licensure
- Technology proficiency in email, scheduling platforms, and data collection
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
* $550 Sign-on bonuses available to offset costs associated with this position including but not limited to Department of Education fingerprinting and background checks for the purpose of working in a public-school setting, first year’s professional liability insurance policy, IPDH application, etc.
