About the role

Michael Baker International is looking for an experienced Senior Human Resources Business Partner. This is a client-facing role based in Moon Township, PA on a collaborative and hard-working human resources team that will support human resources efforts for our Great Lakes Region.  

What We’re Looking For

As a member of our integrated HR team, the Senior HR Business Partner aligns business objectives with employees and management in designated business units, while providing functional support in various areas of all things Human Capital related. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HR management, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to drive HR initiatives that align with our business goals.

A hybrid working arrangement is available, allowing employees to work 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

What You’ll Do

  • Understand and drive talent initiatives including accessing talent, employee performance management, and long-term employee developmental strategies. 
  • Build partnerships across HR to deliver value-added services aligned with business objectives.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the business. Analyze HR trends and metrics to develop solutions, programs, and policies. Offer day-to-day guidance to managers in areas such as goal setting, coaching, career development, disciplinary actions, and terminations. 
  • Utilize PowerPoint presentations and HR data for communicating and determining directional guidance for Regional Directors in the business. 
  • Collaborate with HR Centers of Excellence on analysis and problem-solving, driving recommendations to leadership with fact based and data supported outcomes.
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition in evaluating open position requests and employment terms with management.
  • Utilize 360 feedback sessions to assist others in identifying career development opportunities.
  • Advise and assist in creating, reviewing, and executing performance improvement plans with managers.
  • Serve as the HR interface for employees, assisting with questions and directing them to appropriate departments.
  •  Maintain knowledge of legal requirements for employee management to ensure compliance and reduce legal risks, partnering with the Legal Department as needed.
  • Conduct thorough investigations to resolve complex employee relations issues, in partnership with Legal.
  • Execute involuntary terminations and adjustments in staffing as needed. 
  • Lead Talent Planning preparation.
  • Collaborate on business unit restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning. 
  • Assist managers in improving employee retention and engagement using HR tools including surveys, stay and exit interviews, and other corporate initiatives.  Conduct and follow up on stay and exit interviews, providing recommendations to managers and other leaders.
  • Provide HR policy guidance and interpretation to managers and employees.
  • Lead HR team members in project-related activities across key functional areas. Follow up with managers on deliverables.
  • Lead special projects as needed. 

What You Need to Succeed

  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or other related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of HR-related experience.
  • Preferred strong understanding of civil engineering industry and specialties 
  • Adaptable, flexible, and open-minded management approach as a creative, outcome-focused problem solver.
  • Ability to act decisively, use sound judgment, and progress projects with pace and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of U.S. employment laws.
  • Strong understanding of all areas of HR including – talent acquisition/management, learning &development, organizational effectiveness/development, compensation strategy and design, strategic planning, metrics/analytics, project/program management.
  • Proficient in technology utilizing Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and Oracle.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $125,000 to 186,000 base plus eligibility for annual incentives. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
