As a Pre-Licensed Veterinary Technician, you'll gain hands-on clinical experience while completing your AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program, working alongside experienced Licensed Veterinary Technicians and veterinarians in a collaborative teaching environment. You'll build essential technical and patient care skills while supporting exceptional care for a wide variety of animal patients across our hospital. • Prepare patients, exam rooms, and clinical spaces for procedures, maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment.

  • Support patient care by administering oral medications, transporting animals, and organizing laboratory samples for diagnostic testing.

  • Assist with patient admissions and discharges, helping provide a positive and welcoming experience for clients and their animals.

  • Complete basic tasks in CUHA's electronic medical record (ezyVet), including placing diagnostic requests, documenting activities, and ordering clinical supplies.

Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma with six months of basic animal handling experience or equivalent.

  • Accepted and enrolled in an AVMA accredited associate’s degree in veterinary technology distant learning program.   The preferred program is SUNY Delhi with consideration to other programs, such as Penn Foster.

  • Must successfully obtain Veterinary Technology degree within three years of employment with consistent enrollment.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment while managing multiple priorities with strong attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn, follow direction from Licensed Veterinary Technicians, ask clarifying questions, and apply constructive feedback.

  • Basic knowledge of veterinary terminology, patient behavior, common diseases, vaccinations, and laboratory procedures.

  • Ability to learn and use veterinary software, including CUHA's electronic medical record system (ezyVet).
