The Senior Buyer role is a lead position responsible for overseeing and coordinating all procurement activities for the Rotterdam office.

 

Responsibilities:

Buyer Functions

  • Coordinates all activities related to procurement beginning with intent to purchase including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and date parts and/or supplies are needed through delivery utilizing an ERP system. Purchase a variety of complex and/or technical parts and supplies.
  • Manage purchasing KPI’s such as OTD and Quality performance and savings/productivity activities
  • Set up Supply Agreements or delivery schedules/blanket orders with suppliers
  • Negotiates with suppliers to get the lowest possible cost for the purchased parts and supplies balanced against the optimum quality and schedule needs.
  • Purchase materials, components, and services as required based on approved requisitions, replenishment schemes, Kanban, MRP, JIT, or Scheduling inputs.
  • Performs Purchase Order (PO) maintenance associated with ordering, expediting, distribution, approvals and record keeping. Ensures purchasing records are current and up to date in accordance with company policy and ISO documented standards.
  • Negotiates and settles with suppliers regarding damage claims, rejections, return of materials, over-shipments, cancellations and engineering changes. Lead and manage Return Material Authorizations (RMA) from suppliers as deemed necessary.
  • Manage, develop, and maintain Kanban inventory levels, implementing strategies for spike management, CONWIP Kanbans and other replenishment strategies based on product line.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement activity to decrease material COGS and work with Manufacturing and design engineers to assist in Value engineering/value analysis on parts.

Other general functions:

  • Level load production schedules taking into consideration materials availability, customer demand, lead times, and capacity.
  • Develop and maintain Forecast, master schedule and procurement plan based on history, seasonality and sales opportunities.
  • Analyse inventory levels and product demands to determine reorder levels including spike management that will ensure product availability and minimize inventory costs
  • Work with operations group in keeping cycle time for product manufacturing below Takt time.
  • Communicate potential delivery problems and last-minute scheduling changes because of backlogs, design changes and material or labour shortages to applicable teams.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred
  • A minimum of five years related work experience and/or training in an industrial environment working with complex and/or technical supplies and materials in a low volume high mix purchasing and planning; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:

  • Excellent knowledge of the English & Dutch language (verbal & written)
  • Hands on mentality and being able to organize and set up (new) processes.
  • Experience in negotiating with suppliers and setting up long term supplier contracts.
  • Actively involved in procuring material for New product development
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and six sigma environment a plus.
  • Expertise in Kanban management and implementation
  • Production scheduling practices using MRP and Lean Pull systems both Electronic and Manual.
  • Some familiarity with electro-mechanical assemblies and/or equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills; written, oral and inter-personal.
  • Ability to work independently and employ effective time management skills.
