Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist - Anesthesiology - Per Diem

Work Location: Bascom Palmer Eye Institute (BPEI)

The BPEI -Anesthesiology Department at the University of Miami/UHealth has an exciting Per Diem opportunity for a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).  The CRNA:

  • Works in collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons and other physicians and medical professionals to deliver anesthesia for medical and surgical procedures.  
  • Provides cares for a patient before, during and after a medical procedure or surgery by performing a patient assessment, preparing the patient for anesthesia, administering and maintaining the anesthesia to ensure proper sedation and pain management.
  • Oversees the patient recovery from anesthesia and caring for the patient's immediate post-operative needs.
  • Responsible for pre-operative assessment of the surgical patients and administers anesthesia under the Direction of an Anesthesiologist
  • Preforms pre- and post-anesthesia patient visits and documents anesthesia notes on patient records.
  • Reviews medical history, evaluating patients and determining proper methods of anesthesia.
  • Performs or evaluate diagnostic tests, such as radiographs (x-rays) and electrocardiograms (EKG’s).
  • Measures and monitors the level and speed at which anesthesia is administered.
  • Monitors patient vital signs to ensure safety, to include skin color, pupil dilation, pulse, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, ventilation or urine output. Informs physician of patient’s condition during anesthesia.
  • Manages patients’ airway or pulmonary status using techniques, such as endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy, and extubation.
  • Oversees patient recovery from anesthesia and cares for patient’s immediate post-operative needs.
  • Prepares prescribed solutions and administers local, intravenous, spinal or other anesthetics following specified methods and procedures.
  • Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administering fluids or drugs, and using basic or advanced life support techniques.
  • Develops anesthesia care plans.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • A Master’s Degree and a graduate from an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia Program (CRNA)

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Valid Florida CRNA License
  • BLS/ACLS/PALS required issued by the American Heart Association

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience preferred
