Key Role Details

• This is a paid internship that is part time, requiring 15-20 hours per week.

• Participation in the internship requires that you are located in the continental United States with in-person attendance at your assigned location (onsite at University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign Lab or University of Maryland - College Park Lab), in accordance with Capital One’s hybrid working model, for the duration of the program.

Basic Qualifications

• Current student of, and will be actively enrolled in the same course of study through the full duration of the program at the University of Maryland - College Park; University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher with an expectation that you will complete your most recent full-time degree program by August 2026 or earlier 

• At least 1 year of experience with Python

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently earning a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field of study

• At least 1 year of experience with machine learning and various subfields (deep learning, Graph ML, NLP, explainability, etc.)

• At least 1 year of experience with relational databases

• At least 1 year of experience with large scale data analytics

• At least 1 year of experience with AWS

• Demonstrated experience in contributing to open source projects and proficient use of Git/GitHub

• Strong understanding of version control and collaborative development practices

There, student interns will apply classroom learning to real-world problems and experiences in areas like AI, machine learning, and data science. We pair some of our best scientists and technology associates to guide students and work hand-in-hand on key projects related to research and business use cases at Capital One.

Students in the program will have the opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of real-world, interdisciplinary projects that may range from:

• Partnering with a cross-functional team of engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers who deliver AI Engineering products

• Developing ML platforms and products, where the work involves a variety of modern software engineering practices like large scale data engineering and analytics, libraries and tooling, MLOps, CI/CD, and open source, among others.

• Using the latest in computing and machine-learning technologies to work with large-scale data and cloud-based processing, applying a statistical mindset to your work.
