DANCE 402 Dance Company Rehearsal: Contemporary

Course hours: T Th 8:45-9:45 am

 

Course Description: The Saint Mary’s College Dance program is seeking a guest artist to create and rehearse a dance in person with students. The rehearsal process will include generating material in the African Diaspora.  The instructor will hold an audition the first week of classes, Feb. 2, 2026. The instructor will rehearse 2.0 hours per week beginning Feb. 9, 2026 to prepare for the spring dance concert scheduled for May  7-9, 2026.  

 

The instructor will work with the Dance Production Manager, Lighting and Costume Designers, and the Spring Concert Director to schedule spacing and lighting rehearsals during tech week. 

 

Dance faculty are also required to attend dance faculty meetings and will be compensated for these hours.  

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have experience working as a professional dancer and choreographer in the African Diaspora including more contemporary styles of movement. Preference will be given to artists that have performance experience in Black dance.

Salary:  $2,482 - $3,436 depending on qualifications

The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
