Position Overview
The Senior Police Officer is responsible for making arrests, conducting search and seizure, traffic enforcement, crash investigation, public safety and service, investigation of criminal incidents, and maintaining public order on the University campus and surrounding area. Work involves patrolling all campus areas, buildings and parking lots day and night. Police Officers must exercise good judgment and discretion in dealing with violators of laws and University regulations. Police Officers may be required to work special assignments, special events or be on call.
Responsibilities
- Preserves public peace and order and prevents crime through proactive patrolling of the University campus.
- Apprehends offenders.
- Ensures the protection of people and property through the enforcement of the laws of the State of Indiana and regulations of Butler University.
- Responds to customer requests and provides security services.
- Participates in Community Policing programs and presentations and works collaboratively with other police agencies in resolving problems and enhancing community relations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- ILEA Certified
- 5 or more years of prior law enforcement experience
- Strong Problem Solving Skills
- Excellent communication skills – written and oral
- High School Diploma
- Applicants must pass an oral interview, drug screen, and psychological exam, and background.
- Applicants must be able to certify in State Mandates outlined by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy,
- Applicants must be able to certify in IDACS.
