Office of Student-Athlete Development - Academic Mentor
Purpose within the Organization:
This position will provide academic support and guidance to first-year, transfer, and at-risk student-athletes. This position requires consistent and open communication with the Office of Student-Athlete Development staff. The position will report directly to the Director of Student-Athlete Development.
Responsibilities Related to Purpose:
- Provide comprehensive academic support to assigned student-athletes, including at-risk student-athletes.
- Work one-on-one to develop and implement learning strategies and effective study skills within the framework of the students’ academic and athletic time demands.
- Monitor academic performance and aid in the development organization and time management skills.
- Assist with study hall operations as requested.
Qualifications:
- Junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled in full-time degree program in Education, Counseling, Sport Management, or related field at Grand Canyon University.
- Previous experience as a student-athlete or working with students at the collegiate level, preferably in an intercollegiate athletics environment and must possess the ability to clearly establish, monitor, and maintain appropriate boundaries with student-athletes.
- Working knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to work with academically challenged or at-risk students.
- Strong organizational skills, effective interpersonal skills, problem-solving ability, time management skills, attention to detail.
- Proficiency with computer software including: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to effectively interact with a diverse population of students and staff.

Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy.
Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:
- Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program.
- Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
- Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
Pay Rate: Minimum Wage
