Showrunner / Senior Producer

The Free Press
Los Angeles, United Statesfull_timeVerifiedPosted 16 Jan 2024

About the role

The Free Press is looking for an experienced New York-based showrunner/senior producer to develop and oversee a fast-turn news-focused show for digital video and audio platforms, along with multiple other offerings in development.
The candidate must be steeped in the news cycle, have demonstrated experience booking high-profile interviews, and a Rolodex to match.
Critically, they must be able to write high-end longform copy copy for a range of video products, and be comfortable working both “big picture”—contributing to major editorial decisions, for example, and “in the weeds”—handling research, talent, and day-to-day production.
Will report to the Head of Audio and Video.

Responsibilities

  • Run a complex, fast-turn news discussion show that is as compelling in an audio-only podcast format as on video.
  •  Book high profile guests—including from within your own deeply sourced professional network—to appear on the show.
  • Write excellent scripts to tight deadlines.
  • Develop and run a number of other audio and video products alongside the main show. Assemble a small team of freelancers and contractors as needed.

Qualifications

  • A proven track record of booking high-profile guests to tight deadlines under the pressure of changing national and international events.
  • A proven record of writing journalistically for print, audio, or video.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in audio or video news production and development.
  • Proven experience running a politics/current affairs-focused news show on audio or video.
  • A network of contacts in journalism and politics.
  • An embrace of a scrappy start-up environment with a willingness to jump in wherever needed to help the team succeed.
