General Summary:

The Tool and Die position is responsible for performing work in several business units across the campus. Responsible for accurate production of parts from engineering prints, including application of tolerances. Operations include milling, turning, grinding, heat treating, programming of CNC equipment, troubleshooting, assembly and tryout.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Experience in the operation of CNC and manual Lathes, Milling machines, Grinders and general tool room equipment. 
  • Must be able to utilize precision measuring tools.
  • Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools and dies. Sets up, runs off, and tests tools and dies to produce a product to specification.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs machinery and die sets.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions or from the part to be copied or fitted.
  • Familiar with Sheet Metal Fabrication and manufacturing processes is a plus.
  • Safety - Comply with all company and federal safety rules, policies and procedures to include wearing required safety equipment (PPE). Respond to safety concerns and taking appropriate action.
  • Be able to perform in a team environment and also be self-directed as situations dictate.
  • Computer - Must be proficient with a computer and have good communication skills.  Proven working knowledge of CAD software is required.
  • Welding experience is a plus.
  • This position involves working at various positions in the shops and working at several buildings.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Work requires extensive technical or specialized training such as that which would be acquired in the first two or three years of college or technical school.
  • 2 to 5 years of work experience preferred.
