While we have been improving lives of HIV patients for 30 years, this is an especially exciting time to be at ViiV, as we evaluate novel approaches to treatment and prevention that could further reduce the impact of HIV on individuals and communities.

The Director, External Affairs Programming plays a key role in advancing ViiV Healthcare’s community engagement strategy. The Director oversees community-facing programs, initiatives, activations, and sponsorships, and partners, where necessary, with the Director, External Affairs Giving to ensure strategic alignment. The role also engages, where necessary, with Community Liaison Managers (CLMs) to incorporate field insights, ensure compliance and delivery of business objectives, and support impactful activities in priority communities.

This role requires the person to reside in either the Washington, DC, or Durham, NC area. We offer a hybrid work arrangements, allowing for both remote and in-office work in accordance with company policy. Please note that relocation assistance is not available at this time.

This position will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Provide oversight of community-facing programs, initiatives, activations, and sponsorships, partnering where necessary with the Director, External Affairs Giving to maintain strategic alignment

  • Collaborate with CLMs to integrate field insights into planning

  • Identify opportunities to support community partners through sponsorships that elevate community voices and ViiV Healthcare’s leadership in HIV

  • Apply and coach internal guidelines to ensure compliance in all activities

  • Manage relationships with agency partners and oversee project timelines and deliverables

  • Implement community-facing programs, initiatives, and activations in collaboration with community stakeholders and internal matrix partners

  • Partner with the Communications team to ensure consistent messaging and alignment across projects

  • Oversee programming informed by field insights and aligned with strategic priorities

  • Drive sponsorship negotiations and execution with ViiV Giving, Corporate Communications, and other partners

  • Review a limited number of community proposals to remain informed of funding priorities and the broader landscape

  • Maintain and strengthen stakeholder relationships through ongoing engagements with thought leaders and partners across the United States

  • Lead planning, execution, and follow-up for major events and programs

  • Manage a yearly calendar that balances workload and meets community needs

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor’s degree & 10+ years of HIV experience in community engagement OR public health OR external affairs

  • 10+ years leading or engaging in HIV and public health programs at local, national, and international levels, including oversight of cooperative agreements.

  • Up to 30% domestic travel may be necessary for community engagement activities, conferences, and stakeholder mee
