Duties and Role:
- Monitor and perform quality assurance on cable infrastructure work performed by commercial contractors and outside agencies;
- Maintain a sound knowledge of current cable infrastructure standards and future innovations for potential implementation within the CSU Norfolk AoR;
- Develop and execute plans of work for cable infrastructure projects, including the requisite site surveys, resource planning and written statement of work for any outsourced jobs;
- Support installation and maintenance of active and passive network infrastructure, including but not limited to Modems, Routers, Switches, Crypto equipment and other commercial/military communications and infrastructure systems that provide access to NATO's classified and unclassified Wide Area Networks (WAN) and Local Area Networks (LAN);
- Maintain standard operating procedures for recurring types of installation and routine work including customer personnel moves;
- Serve as the primary Subject Matter Expert for cable infrastructure services on behalf of CSU Norfolk, attending meetings at various levels in support of new projects related to or directly involving cabling services;
- Stay abreast of technological developments relevant to telecommunications and infrastructure;
- Follow EMSEC and Cyber Security policies/standards;
- Provide advice and assistance to other work centers within Service Operations Branch as needed;
- Can support physical task requirements with the ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
Requirements
Skill, Knowledge & Experience:
- The candidate must have a currently active NATO SECRET security clearance
- Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 3 years post-related experience, or a secondary educational qualification with 5 years post-related experience, including the installation, maintenance and support of enterprise copper and fiber infrastructures;
- 3 years functional experience developing and leading cable infrastructure related projects along with the associated installation team;
- Completed BICSI Installation Technician (Copper and Fiber) or equivalent qualification from a recognized International organization.
- At least 1 year experience in the operation & maintenance of networked CIS systems;
- Experience with maintaining, implementing, configuring, and testing of modern communications, or information systems in a LAN/WAN environment;
- Experience in the area of network infrastructure security.
Desirable Experience and Education:
- BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer;
- Experience using Microsoft Office programs with emphasis on MS Visio for infrastructure diagrams;
- Previous experience supporting NATO Cable Infrastructure;
- Knowledge of NATO TEMPEST zoning requirements;
- General understanding of related telecommunications systems and techniques of TDM, MPLS, Software Defined Networking and Access, Video, Voice and VoIP technology;
- Practical experience of configuration, operation and management of Voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure (e.g. CUCM);
- Practical experience of maintaining and configuring network infrastructure including routers, switches, Wireless Access Points (WAPs), and Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC);
- Practical experience in using network configuration and analysis tools;
