BASIC FUNCTION:      

The main purpose of this position is to evaluate applicants for admission to the University. Responsibilities include calls, written correspondence, and admission recommendations; makes critical judgments, presents arguments recommending admissions decisions to the Admissions Committee; counsel’s candidates and their parents on admissions and curricular choices. Incumbent will provide positive, efficient and effective communications with students, parents, secondary school officials and alumni.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This position will interact with prospective students, families, counselors, alumni and internal contacts.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Determine admissibility of prospective students to the University.
  • Correspond with prospective students, applicants, guidance counselors and others seeking information on admissions standards and application status.
  • Interpret and apply university policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Answer daily admission inquiries by email, phone, and in person.
  • Participates with special programs and research projects, and in the development and implementation of enrollment strategies.
  • Attends on and off-site recruitment events as necessary.
  • Ability and willingness to work some evenings/weekends and some overnight travel as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Professional writing skills including correct use of grammar and punctuation.
  • Highly developed and effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious relationships with staff, faculty, students, alumni, representatives of other institutions, and the
  • general public.
  • Capacity to learn and provide in-depth information and advice about the University and its programs.
  • Ability to demonstrate discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Confidence and the ability to execute projects both independently and as a member of a team.
  • High energy, enthusiasm, and passion for the work.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:        

A Bachelor’s degree and at least three to five years of experience in university admissions and/or counseling high school or college students or similar experience.
