About the role
Job Title: Sr Manager, Messaging, Collaboration & Unified Communication
Manager, Messaging & Unified Communication
Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in office 2 days from home)
Location: Morristown | Department: IT Operations
Reports to: Sr. Director, IT Operations
Position Summary
The Sr Manager, Messaging, Collaboration & Unified Communication is responsible for the design, delivery, and optimization of enterprise messaging, Collaboration, and Unified Communications (MCUC) platforms. This role combines infrastructure leadership with user-centric thinking to ensure a secure, reliable, and seamless communication experience for all employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy, implementation, and operational excellence of messaging, collaboration and unified communication (UC) platforms, including Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and related services.
- Serve as a thought leader in collaboration technologies, user experience, and digital workplace innovation.
- Oversee enterprise platforms including Microsoft 365 (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive), Zoom, and related services.
- Manage hybrid and cloud-native messaging environments, ensuring availability, scalability, and security.
- Lead voice/video collaboration initiatives (e.g., VoIP, Zoom Rooms, conference room tech).
- Monitor service health and performance; respond to incidents and ensure continuous improvement.
- Own platform governance, retention policies, service health, and capacity planning for messaging and UC systems.
- Work with Information Security to enforce DLP, MFA, encryption, and compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, SOX).
- Collaborate with HR, Security, Legal, and business units to deliver effective communication experiences.
- Monitor system performance, usage patterns, and user experience metrics; implement continuous improvements based on data and feedback.
- Oversee a team of engineers, administrators, or vendors responsible for day-to-day service operations.
- Manage vendor relationships, licensing, support contracts, and escalation processes for UC platforms.
- Stay informed on emerging trends in messaging, UCaaS, and digital employee experience.
- Design training, documentation, and onboarding programs to enhance the employee experience.
- Collect user feedback and continuously iterate on service improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- 6–10+ years of experience in messaging systems, unified communications, or collaboration infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of Microsoft 365 suite, especially Exchange Online, Teams, and related admin centers.
- Strong experience with UC tools such as Zoom, WebEx, Cisco, or Skype for Business (legacy).
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and manage enterprise-scale collaboration environments.
- Familiarity with digital experience tools (e.g., Nexthink, Lakeside), usage analytics, and service monitoring.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and change management skills.
Preferred Skills
- Certifications in Microsoft 365 (MS-700, MS-203), UCaaS, or ITIL a plus.
- Experience with identity and access management (Azure AD, SSO, MFA) as it relates to messaging tools.
- Working knowledge of PowerShell, automation, or ITSM practices.
- Exposure to employee experience frameworks, governance, and accessibility
