Summary:  The Civil Engineering Department at New Mexico State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant/ Associate Professor level, with appointment starting Fall 2025.

Classification Summary:
The New Mexico State University Civil Engineering program offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. The NMSU Civil Engineering faculty are dedicated to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as in our research endeavors. Class sizes are small, often between twenty and forty students. The faculty have active research programs in the general areas of structures, geotechnical, water, environmental, and transportation engineering. The specific position being requested here falls within the structures group which is currently down to just two tenure track faculty, from a historical norm of five tenure track faculty, due to promotions and departures.

Classification Standard Duties:
Successful applicants must demonstrate the ability to contribute to the mission of the Civil Engineering Department in teaching, research, and service. The specific responsibilities of the position include teaching For 50% of the workload (usually 6 credit hours per semester), research for 25% of the workload, and service for 25% of the workload. Teaching is to be some combination of undergraduate and graduate courses, both online and on-campus from existing curriculum and new courses created in an applicant's specialty. Research activities will be specific to the successful candidate, but these activities are expected to produce external funding and archival publications. Service activities will include student advising/mentoring and other service to the department, college, and university.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Bachelor's and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering or closely related fields are required. Professional licensure, or the ability to become licensed within five years, is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
We are searching for an assistant/associate professor to join our excellent faculty. The successful candidate will have demonstrated potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and demonstrated evidence of having the potential to develop research programs funded by external sources.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The selected individual will teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to structural engineering, advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and serve the department, college, university, and professional community. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop an externally funded research program in structural engineering or a related field.

A strong background in advanced manufacturing or construction (such as 3-D printing with concrete), bridge engineering, machine learning in civil engineering, automated construction or mechatronics, advanced materials with civil engineering applications, energy infrastructure, computational modeling, blast mechanics or micro-mechanical modeling is desirable but not necessary for applicants.
