Job Duties

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to serve as a Specialty Population Treatment Coordinator within the Office of Addiction, Recovery, and Wellness Services, reporting to the Women's Services and Specialty Population Manager. The services provided by this position are essential to the implementation and long-range program success of programs that support marginalized and vulnerable populations. This position uplifts and implements services to problem gambling treatment programs and special population initiatives to include pregnant and parenting women with dependent children, problem gambling, veteran and military, and other specialized populations that are impacted by substance use and gambling disorders.

Primary responsibilities include:
• Providing technical assistance and training on the Core Competencies of Problem Gambling.
• Implementing and upgrading policies and procedures for service delivery and monitoring.
• Conducting program evaluations and site visits (virtually or in-person) to Community Services Boards and other entities in the state.
• Establishing and maintaining consistent, strong, and collaborative relationships with regional community providers as well as state leaders to advance the evidence-based treatments of addictive disorders as related to the respective specialty population.
• Keeping informed about the latest state and national trends in problem gambling and other addictions.
• Working closely with problem gambling prevention and recovery staff and the Virginia Council on Problem Gambling.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of addictive disorders processes, theories, and treatments and how to apply these principles in service management and delivery.
• Knowledge of the impact of addictive disorders in marginalized populations.
• Knowledge of programmatic capacity building, planning, evaluation, and implementation.
• Knowledge and training in cultural linguistics, diversity, and equity.
• Knowledge of and experience with the public and private behavioral health service delivery system in Virginia, particularly the Community Service Board system.
• Effective communication, both written and verbally, including public speaking.
• Skilled in interpreting, evaluating, and program-related analyzing data.
• Skilled in adapting and implementing quality improvement initiatives in behavioral health settings.
• Ability to apply performance coaching techniques to help employees assess CSB stakeholders’ needs and develop a plan to access and coordinate delivery of customized technical assistance.
• Ability to function with a high degree of independence and considerable discretion.

Additional Considerations

• Practical and educational competency around substance use as outlined by the Virginia Department of Health Professions, to include certification or license in substance use and or the field of addiction.
• Experience working in or with a direct service organization that provides behavioral health and addiction services.
• Clinical and practical knowledge providing services to specialty populations such as those with gambling disorders, pregnant and parenting women with dependent children and tribal communities impacted by substance use disorders.
• Experience presenting to large groups in educational and professional settings.
• Comprehension of the theoretical approaches and techniques utilized in the treatment of problem gambling and substance use disorders.
