About the role
JOB SUMMARY
The Mechanic III maintains and repairs machinery and equipment ( e.g.- Blenders, Fluid Beds, Film Lines, Grinders, Sifters and other production machinery). This employee has the responsibility to report food safety hazards or personnel safety concerns to their immediate supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities:
- Directs workers engaged in maintaining and repairing equipment including but not limited to such items as: motors, pumps, Blenders, Fluid Beds, Film Lines and other manufacturing equipment
- Trains other mechanics in proper working procedures and SOPs
- Takes on and runs projects as assigned
- Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies
- Inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications and standards
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules
- Enforces safety regulations
- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew
- Analyzes and resolves work problems or assist workers in resolving work problems
- Confer with supervisors to coordinate activities of maintenance department
- Enter timely and accurate information into preventative maintenance computer program
- Recommends parts to be deleted or kept in stock
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Master Trainer of 80% of plant equipment
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Maintains all assigned safety trainings
- Maintains all PPE needed for one’s job performance and safety
- Works independently and with other Team members
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Experience Required:
- A minimum of three to five years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of filling and packaging equipment in a manufacturing environment or equivalent experience
- PLC programming and knowledge of ladder logic a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions finished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Ability to work with amino acids, vitamins and fine chemicals in powder and liquid form as well as allergen products.
Language, Computer & Numeracy:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and written
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports and procedures manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and written
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measures, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to interpret bar graphs

Physical Demands:
- Regularly involves talking or listening, sitting, and the use of hands and fingers.
- Regularly involves going up and down stairs.
- Frequently involves reaching with hands and arms, standing and walking.
