The American Heart Association’s Initiative, Voices for Healthy Kids, has an excellent opportunity for a National Grassroots Manager, Digital in our Advocacy group. This position can be located at our National Center office in Dallas, Texas (Flexible work arrangements available). The selected candidate will lead our strategic grassroots initiatives with equity at their center, developing grassroots campaigns and resources to support equitable policy change, building relationships with other organizational partners to maximize impact and provide coaching and technical assistance to aligned policy change campaigns at the tribal, state and local levels.

 

The National Grassroots Manager, Digital will be responsible for strategic planning, execution, implementation and reporting for our online advocate networks, including Voices for Healthy Kids and the National Collaborative for Infants & Toddlers. Emphasis will be on growing diverse networks that are representative of community and support equitable policy priorities in the places experiencing the greatest barriers to health and wellness. In addition, this role will provide coaching and technical assistance to aligned state and local campaigns to maximize their impact. Additional responsibilities include developing relationships with internal, partner organizational and community advocates to increase alignment and maximize impact of grassroots campaigns and improve advocacy outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes, implements and reports on strategic plans for effective grassroots programs grounded in equity to support Voices for Healthy Kids and the National Collaborative for Infants and Toddlers.
  • Recruits, engages and retains an inclusive grassroots constituency that reflects the racial and ethnic diversity of those most impacted by the issues we are working to solve.
  • Provides strategic and technical assistance to tribal, state and local campaigns through one-on-one coaching, developing tools regarding effective online and offline grassroots advocacy, and developing and implementing training.
  • Promotes and demonstrates effective collaboration with AHA’s cross organization advocacy team including state, local, and federal grassroot teams, as well as technical support staff, to achieve joint advocacy objectives.
  • Attends and participates in all relevant external meetings throughout the year, including site visits, in person staff meetings, annual summit, conferences, as appropriate
  • Cultivates relationships with philanthropic organizations, public health coalitions, and other community leaders to help advance Voices for Healthy Kids and National Collaborative for Infants & Toddler priorities and support and advise our approach to technical assistance for state and local campaign. Focus on organizations related to our core issues and organizations supporting African American/Black, Latino and Native communities, people with low income and rural populations.
  • Manages relationships with various vendors and consultants
  • Understands the changing nature of grassroots advocacy and consistently brings innovative and proven tactics to fruition for Voices for Healthy Kids and the campaigns we support.
  • Works closely with Voices for Healthy Kids team members to optimize communications strategies including websites and social media networks in support of our issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in Public Health, Public Affairs, Grassroots Advocacy or related area.
  • Three (3) years of experience with community or digital organizing for advocacy.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in equity, including experience and interest in understanding the social determinants of health and a dedication to advancing equity in communities.
