With seeds and traits, crop protection and digital solutions, we help farmers produce food more efficiently, protect the land and meet the needs of society. </p> <h2>RESPONSIBILITIES</h2> <p>We offer digital solutions for a sustainable agriculture by optimizing crop production and support farmers worldwide through monitoring of soil and crop conditions, assisting with disease and pest recognition, and recommend tailored treatments based on in-field conditions.</p> <ul> <li>As Senior Software Engineer Backend Java/GIS you are responsible for the Java-based backend development, GIS architecture and operations inside the globally operating digital farming unit of BASF. </li> <li>You ensure efficient and cost-effective handling and processing of large volumes of geospatial data layers, like machinery data, soil and satellite imagery etc.</li> <li>In close collaboration with our remote sensing research team you support the implementation of satellite/drone imagery processing.</li> <li>Together with the project team you translate Digital Farming business needs into IT requirements and concrete technical implementations covering the whole software development lifecycle.</li> <li>At last, you participate in all phases of the product governance and development life cycle, including writing epics, user stories and support the sprint planning in our agile development setup.</li> </ul> <h2>QUALIFICATIONS</h2> <ul> <li>Bachelor´s degree in computer sciences, natural sciences, engineering, mathematics, GIS or related fields</li> <li>solid experience with Java GeoTools, PostGIS, QGIS and GeoServer</li> <li>good understanding of geospatial related concepts like raster/ vector data handling, geometry simplification, statistical clustering, filters and geometric operations</li> <li>good understanding of handling farm machinery data and environmental data layers like soil, topology etc. would be an advantage</li> <li>excellent communication in English and analytical skills to build as well as maintain good working relationships across the entire organization</li> </ul> <h2>BENEFITS</h2> <ul> <li>Onboarding to help you settle in quickly, ensuring you are part of the BASF team from day one.</li> <li>International work culture that embraces diversity, equity and inclusion.</li> <li>Development discussions and programs so that you can reach your full potential.</li> <li>Flexible work arrangements so that you can balance your working life and private life.</li> </ul> <h2>ABOUT US</h2> <p>Do you have any questions about the application process or the position?
