SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Physical Therapist develops and implements rehabilitation programs to help patients return to a higher level of physical function, increase mobility, and reduce pain. The therapist will assist with management of degenerative conditions and chronic pain patients. The therapist will help patients through a combination of physical activity, reflexology, massage, muscular, and skeletal manipulation. This position will also provide care for our Fort Smith and Fayetteville patients needing Physical Therapy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Performs initial and ongoing physical therapy evaluations in accordance with organizational policy and Arkansas law.
  2. Develops plan of treatment for each patient based on initial and ongoing evaluations including short- and long-term goals, collaboration demands of other staff members, and required patient and caregiver involvement. 
  3. Implements treatment plan on a  consistent schedule and adjusts this schedule and plan according to patient progress. 
  4. Documents patient progress according to approved medical documentation and facility documentation procedures. 
  5. Evaluates mobility, strength, and current level of patient function, while setting goals to improve in these areas that are scaled to patient abilities and realistically attainable.
  6. Reports patient progress to patient, patient caregivers, and facility staff and healthcare professionals involved in ongoing treatment of patients.
  7. Develops a plan for patients following completion of their treatment plan with appropriate in-home care services.
  8. Monitors effectiveness of medication treatment, develops plan of care and provide education for patients and family members.
  9. Maintains professional and technical knowledge through attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, etc.
  10. Assists other facility staff members as needed to provide care and create a clean, orderly, and effective environment for rehabilitation and physical therapy.

· Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquiries to ensure accurate and timely communications are facilitated.

· Demonstrate ability to handle emergency or crisis situations in a prompt, precise, and professional manner.

· Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.

o Investigate and follow through on unusual orders or requests for service or information.

o Follow proper reporting procedures for actual or potential accidents and/or incidents so follow up and/or prevention can occur.

· Record/report the need for service maintenance or repair of equipment and remove any faulty equipment from service.

· Consistently evaluate work and determine if further steps are needed to meet client expectations.

· Take initiative to do to redo inadequate or incomplete work, even if it is not yours.

· Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

· Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.

· Minimize non-productive time and fill slow periods with activities that will enable you to prepare to meet the future needs of the company (education, organizing, housekeeping, assisting others).

· Organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frames.

· Consistently demonstrate ability to take the initiative to make decisions/choices without direct supervision.

· Adhere to administrative and departmental policies.

· Demonstrate regular attendance and timeliness.

· Do not incur excessive overtime.

· Remain conscientious in regard to personal hygiene.

· Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and ability to reference them from appropriate sources.
