About the role

The Digital Modernization Sector has an opening for a Product Mentor to work in Woodlawn, MD.

This position will require onsite work in Woodlawn, MD five days a week.

As a Product Mentor, you play a critical role in influencing the future of products in a large Government organization. In this role, you will be passionate about supporting product managers and product teams creating an exceptional products and user experiences!  You will support defining product strategy, as well as influence multiple projects and initiatives across the organization. You will have the opportunity to guide and understand the needs of different stakeholders involved with a product. Supporting product manager in breaking down complexity, driving innovation and designing new features, understanding and working with complex data and drawing the right conclusions. Support product discovery and design for a range of user personas, that may include internal users (Government) as well as external users (General Public). 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Applying industry-standard Product Management frameworks to existing Federal agency processes to support the modernization and requirements development process.

  • Providing Subject Matter Expertise for agency Product investments and presenting to executive audiences.

  • Describing and discussing data-driven value-seeking Product Management Practices in concert with improvements in software development productivity.

  • Providing extensive assistance in defining and producing Product Management courseware content tailored to organization-specific requirements.

  • Possessing a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality.

  • Providing support through the SDLC process for strategic client projects.

  • Facilitating Product Discovery and requirements gathering workshops with clients.

  • Coaching and training other Product Managers on best practice.

  • Working with team members to produce estimates for proposals and investments.

  • Providing guidance on creating and maintaining a product backlog with epics and user stories.

  • Providing guidance on creating product roadmaps and release plans.

  • Facilitating communication between executive leadership, stakeholders, and development team members.

  • Providing product demos and presentations to clients.

  • Supporting organizational change management message delivery/outreach sessions in the roles of author, packager, and presenter.

  • Producing positive outcomes in technical debates about the application of Product Management processes, redefinition of Product Management terminology, and strategic leadership concepts.

  • Discussing and practicing agile delivery methods, agile culture, and agile leadership.

  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to interface with senior leadership.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

Support Product Manager With:

  • Define, articulate, and build strategy around a vision driving the overall strategy for future products.

  • Engage broadly across product teams and functions to understand drivers of performance and collaborate on optimizing business processes.

  • Partners with leaders/analyst/users to deeply understand user needs and drive alignment around solutions to core business problems by creating models, concepts diagrams, workflow diagrams, and journey maps.

  • Lead discovery sessions, design reviews, and work closely with many different stakeholders.

  • Contribute to building a strong human centered design culture.

  • Manage one or more product managers to guide and prioritize work give the vision and strategy.

  • All other duties as assigned or directed.

Education & Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 12 years OR Master's degree and 10 Years of work experience.  Additional years of experience may be substituted/accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience describing and discussing data-driven, value-seeking Product Management.

Minimum of 3 years of combined experience in 1 or more of the following:

  • Experience implementing product practices at an enterprise level.
  • Experience defining and producing Product Management courseware and marketing content tailored to organization-specific requirements.
  • Experience conveying software methodologies to audiences including senior leaders with varying technical.
