Venesco is recruiting for two Registered Nurses to provide services in the Medical/Surgical unit at Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Charleston, SC. This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those who have served our country!


Hours: Med/Surge nurses will work day and night shifts, weekdays, weekends and holidays required. Day shift is 7:30 am to 8:00 pm, night shift is 7:30 pm to 8:00 am with half hour lunch. 


Duties:


Medical-Surgical Nurse is a professional nurse who provides holistic approach to the care of patients requiring acute medical or surgical interventions. The Nurse functions both dependently and independently with guidance and direction from the Nurse Manager/designee. 


Contractor shall ensure that Contractor RNs are able to deliver a broad range of nursing care in the context of disease or injury prevention, health promotion and restoration and health maintenance. The Contract RN delivers/demonstrates fundamental, knowledge based care, while developing and increasing technical competencies to provide and plan nursing care for patients with simple or complex needs. He/she will be expected to assist in all areas of Med/Surg, i.e., Acute Care: 


Contractor nurses will be assigned based on patient care needs and contractor’s experience. 

Agency nurses assigned to Charleston VA Medical/Surgical units can expect to work 12-hour shifts, with alternating weekend shifts preferred.

Assuming a patient care assignment for a group of patients 

Assessment and care of patients with a wide range of physical and psychological diagnoses and with a wide range of treatment modalities 

Care of patients requiring special precautions such as isolation Inserting and maintenance of peripheral lines

Maintaining central lines for administration of intravenous fluid Providing emergency care as indicated 

Administration of medications (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenously) and blood products 

Verification of physician orders Complete and accurate documentation of care according to facility/unit policies 

Phlebotomy and bedside testing 

Psychological support of patients as indicated Complex wound dressing care and maintenance 

May be required to work with COVID 19 positive patients and Patients Under Investigation (PUI), for COVID 19 

Requirements

Education Requirements: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or in related field or a master’s degree in Nursing or in related field is highly preferred. 


Licensure: The contract RNs must have a current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the US or the District of Columbia. Proof of current license must be provided five business days prior to their first shift, and at the licensure renewal rate. This also applies to all other required certifications. 


Life Support Certification: All Nurses & assistants must have certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by an American Health Association vendor. Personnel must be able to demonstrate competency in providing CPR and have current basic life support (BLS) certification. Critical care Nurses shall have advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification. 


Experience: Two years experience as a registered nurse. Medical/Surgical experience preferred.
